Where in the world is Loreto, B.C.S. Mexico?
There is an excellent tool available to everyone on the internet called Google Earth. I've used it to create our series of maps that will allow visitors to better understand our area. Google Earth can be accessed at this link. You will need to download the program. Once you have Google Earth can fly anywhere in the world through your computer. Remember that the program graphics are viewable in three dimensions. To check out places in 3-D, use the tool above the large round directional compass tool in the upper right -and corner. Below I've posted a couple high resolution 3-D images of locations in our area:

As you can see, Loreto is located at the center of the earth...

Direct flights on Alaska Air Lines and Delta air Lines from Los Angeles, CA. (LAX)
and from Houston, TX (IAH) on Contenental Air Lines.
Aero Mexico and regionals connect to mainland Mexico.

Below is a good 3-D perspective of Isla Carmen. In the foreground you can clearly see the height of the mountains that form Puntas La Cholla (lower right) and Tintorerra. A divide can also be seen that bisects the island from Punta Tintorerra to Salinas Bay, defining distinct southern and northern portions. The old salt mine is the blue pool near the center.

Below is an excellent image of Puerto Escondido. It is so good that it could pass for an aereal photograph. The height of the Sierra de la giganta Mountains to the West can be appreciated with respect to the sloping terrain to the sea. The detail of the height of Punta Coyote and the depth and shape of the mangrove lined bays tht surround the port is clear.

Not all areas can be seen as clearly as these examples but you can get a great idea of the shoreline and its above surface profile by changing the vertical perspective with the angle tool (above the directional navigation tool). If you are familiar with the area you will often notice that settlements and towns are incorrectly labeled as in the case of Santa Rosalia on our map of Isla San Ildefonso (in the fishing maps section). To understand the three dimensional terrain of the land surrounding a proven fishing area is to appreciate the fact that it continues below the level of the sea. The sub-surface elevations change as quickly as they do above the surface. This explains the exactness necessary in locating specific areas over sea mounts when fishing.
