STEP 4: Higher End or Couples Type Lodging in Loreto

Introduction: Below is a listing of the accommodations in and around Loreto, B.C.S. Mexico. These accommodations represent the high end or couples type of boutique lodging in our area. Hyper links are listed where these hotels have their own websites. We can book a few of these hotels for you but most of them handle their own bookings. Once you have set your travel dates, booked the airline, and reserved your fishing boats, the next step will be deciding where to stay. Loreto has many choices. Accommodations must have A/C, be clean, be safe, and secure before being listed here. Pool will be mentioned if property has one. If you need help just contact us.
Our Ratings Scale and Comments- the more "fish" a hotel earns the better they are for fishermen to stay at. Let's call them fish friendly hotels. These are our ratings based on feedback from our customers over the years and our personal experience. If a perfectly good hotel is rated low it is not necessarily because it is a bad place to stay but it is not percieved to be fisherman friendly because either there are no accommodations made to handle coolers, fish, and fishing equipment, or they have an "attitude" towards fishermen. There is no particular order to this list. If you wish for your Loreto hotel to be listed or receive a better rating, we'll take bribes!

Listing of Boutique and High End Loreto

Las Cabanas de Loreto

It helps to stay in a place when the owner is a fisherman! This property has all kinds of touches to help the outdoor enthusiast; from outside wash-down areas and BBQ and entertainment center tothoughtful rod holders in the rooms. Just hope they got rid of those ceiling fans, if not then flyrodders heads up! (rating less half a fish if there's ceiling fans, otherwise this place is a perfect 5 Fish) Excellent rooms with two beds, one apartment that with 4 beds and a main house with 2 beds. Individual rooms or the entire property may be reserved. Beautiful pool and jacuzzi area, nice and private, close walk to town center, and one property West of the waterfront. WiFi available.

La Damiana Inn

This is an historic residence of an ex. General in the Mexican military. It was restored a few years ago and during the construction, a couple of secret underground tunnels were discovered. One tunnel lead to the historic stone house across the street, and the other lead to the historic Mission in the center of town. These tunnels were likely built to protect the priests which were persecuted during revolutionary times. Now this house has six guest rooms many of which were newly remodeled, each uniquely decorated in traditional Mexican style. There are nice guest common areas and a large kitchen is available to guests. Another important note is that Geraldo the owner will willingly cook fishermen's catches in their kitchen. La Damiana Inn is located right in the center of town, two blocks from the waterfront and across the street from a taxi stand. WiFi is available and there is a computer for guests to use that's connected to the internet.

La Mision

La Mision is on the site of the old Hotel El Mision. This is where Paco tended bar at the Pelicano, the large rubber tree offered shade beside the pool and Elvis and John Wayne stayed. La Mision reconstructed, remodeled and reopened only a year ago. Their decor and atmosphere is more like a Ritz Carlton than a hotel in Loreto but what the hell? This is a place that has shams on the beds, fancy leather furniture that you'd better not spill your cerveza on and a "spa". It is located on Loreto's waterfront near the marina. Hallways and low clearance stairwells make walking around with 9 foot flyrods a challenge. The fancy and formal atmosphere makes some of our more casual fishermen a little uncomfortable. No off street parking available. Cruising along the malecon can make this a noisy place at night, especially in hot weather. In room safes. WiFi available but signal is spotty.

Price per night: $120.00 US and up
Iguana Inn

This is a small property so it fills up quickly. Their downtown location, price per night and clean, comfortable and fun atmosphere, make it one of the best deals in Baja California Sur lodging. This property is inland but its an easy two block walk from the waterfront and the center of town. Off street parking is available on request. Outdoor BBQ and gathering area. Four rooms with two beds each decorated in traditional colorul Mexican style. WiFi available.

Price per night: $40.00 US and up
Sukasa Bungalows

This property is small and has five uniquely different rental units. It is on the water front and an easy walk to the center of town and the marina. The two units at the front of the property are a duplex, one of which has sliders and a patio facing the street. The other attached unit has the sliders facing North. There is the check-in counter a commercial office in a small building on the corner. The main house is two story with a great view and there is a yurt and a studio room more inside the property. Being on the waterfront, noise from cruising vehicles can pose a problem especially in hot weather.

Price per night: $55.00 US to $85.00, Main House $1,050.00 US per week
Posada de las Flores

This historic looking building was actually only constructed and completed in the year 2000. It has ten rooms that range in size and level of services. This is a fancy hotel complete with pillow "shams" and a spa and it features a third story swimming pool with a glass floor. This adds light to the main lobby and can be seen by looking up. Some of their first guests, after opening the hotel, were fishermen who had a jolly time "mooning" other guests on the ground floor from the bottom of the rooftop pool above. They've copped a 'tude with fishermen ever since. Rooms are European style and very small, antique museum-like setting, difficult to move around with fishing gear but the wife will be happy. This property is located in the center of town and two blocks from the waterfront. Currently, the construction of the town center re-design is affecting this property, we expect it to continue through 2010. WiFi available.

Rentals Loreto

Rentals of private vacation homes are an option in Loreto too. We recommend Rentals Loreto to handle your needs if you think a private home would be more suitable for your family or group. Hotel Tripui

This hotel is well south of Loreto, at 20 miles away. So it is definately outside of town. Its proximity from Loreto makes us taking fishermen from there difficult and costly so we suggest staying in town. However this hotel does deserve mention as a good one to two night side trip from a Loreto trip. It makes a great starting point for a day whale watching trip to Mag Bay. Also the plentiful secure off street parking and wash down facilities make it a great place for private boaters who drive here. Puerto Escondido and its operations are only 3 Km down the street. The hotel is two stories with eight large rooms, two beds in each and overlooking the pool. The pool makes a great gathering place backdropped by the Sierra de la Giganta and scores of colorful flowering trees, bushes and plants. The large restaurant and bar can hande events. WiFi available. Mini mart and easy access to highway 1.
