Not only can The Baja Big Fish Company show you some great fishing, but we make one hell of a great coffee! How is this possible? It all started a few years ago when we grew tired of not having good coffee in Loreto. So we bought a La Pavoni commercial espresso machine for the office and started to enjoy... Then folks started asking if they could have some and if we would sell it.
A year later and quite by accident, we got into roasting our own green coffee beans when a friend of our's gave us a small home roaster and 50 pounds of green beans. Pam has enjoyed roasting so much that she started to roast for the coffee shop. Man did that poor roaster get abused! Now we have modified the way we roast but due to time constraints we can still do it on a farily small scale.
we're hoping to offer fresh roasted coffee on a commerical scale in the future, but our plans have been pushed back a year so hopefully in 2008, everyone in Loreto can enjoy a great cup of joe at a decent price. At this point for roasting, we can only keep up with the demand of the shop.
This information would not be complete if we didn't mention our freshly baked home made desserts! If you're a dessert nut or enjoy the occasional rich semi-sweet chocolate treat with espresso like we do, then you're in for a pleasant surprize! Our desserts are made with the freshest and finest ingredients. We use imported semi sweet chocolate, fresh cream, real vanilla...we even make the marscapone cheese that goes into the tiramisu.
The tiramisu is by far our most popular dessert because of its not too sweet, cacao and espresso flavors and light consistency. Many a seasoned Italian dessert connasseur has commented that its the best they've ever tasted. The Mexican Flan is another popular dessert. Its consistency is thick and custard-like with a creamy vanilla flavour. We started out making cannoli with a smooth ricotta filling and thin pastry shell tube, but it seemed as though folks don't know what they are so they weren't popular, but we'll continue to make them for special occasions and for private events because they're so damn good. We always have some sort of decadent chocolate dessert available. Seasonal desserts include fresh strawberry pie which sells out only a few hours after we put it out! New York style cheesecake, chocolate cheesecake, amaretto chocolate torte, sweet potato pecan pie, and apple sour creme streusel pie are only a few of our rotating selections. The almond and orange rind anisette biscotti has become quite addictive and is the perfect compliment to the cappuccino as it is easily dunk-able without falling apart.
It sure has been satisfying watching everyone enjoy our home-made specialties as they eat every visible food particle on thier plates. We have tested and proven all of our regular offerings and many of these have their basis in Pam's Italian grandmother's authentic secret recipes. These traditional recipes have been modified so that they call for ingredients that are readily available in Loreto. Our special dessert offerings rotate around the availibility of fresh fruits to this area. We can make our desserts for special events with a minimum of three days notice.
