NOTICE: Permits for recreational sport fishing for boats are currently "up in the air" at this point. Conapesca in San Diego, California, U.S.A. has notified persons trying to purchase boat permits, that they will "no longer be required". These notices have been written in English. In Loreto we have been unable to sell personal fishing permits or boat permits "until further notice" since the first of the year. Then personal permits were again made available after the 12th of January. Boat permits were not available and have since not been available to purchase. The secretary at our PESCA office doesn't know what's going on, just that she can't sell any. The official Conapesca website does not list this new regulation in Spanish, but their electronic permit sales portal no longer lists boat permits as options. In my experience, Mexican government websites often (serious understatement) do not work correctly. For example, although the personal sportfishing permits are listed on conapesca's e-permit portal currently, their prices are not showing up anymore. This all makes sense (to me) because it is usually after the first of the year that we see a slight price increase in PESCA permits. It would be my guess that they were trying to figure out how to adjust the price variables in their programming, then screwed something up (like the boat permit functions) and couldn't figure them out. So they scrapped them. This may also explain why their forms don't work at all right now. So what I'm saying is that: PESCA boat permits will not be available until further notice.; This is year 2008.; When conapesca gets the program right, prices will change.; Soon afterward, boat permits will again be a requirement. So be ready. We'll keep you posted.
