Accommodations

Introduction: Below is a listing of the accommodations in and around Loreto, B.C.S. Mexico. Hyper links are listed where these hotels have their own websites. We can book a few of these hotels for you but most of them handle their own bookings. Once you have set your travel dates, booked the airline, and reserved your fishing boats, the next step will be deciding where to stay. Loreto has many choices. Accommodations must have A/C, be clean, be safe, and secure before being listed here. Pool will be mentioned if property has one. If you need help just contact us.

Our Ratings Scale and Comments- the more “fish” a hotel earns the better they are for fishermen to stay at. Let’s call them fishing trip friendly hotels. These are our ratings based on feedback from our customers over the years and our personal experience. If a perfectly good hotel is rated low it is not necessarily because it is a bad place to stay but it is not perceived to be fisherman friendly because either there are no accommodations made to handle coolers, fish, and fishing equipment. There is no particular order to this list. If you wish for your Loreto hotel to be listed or receive a better rating, we’ll take bribes!

Hotel La Mision

La Mision Loreto

La Mision Loreto

La Misión is on the site of the old Hotel El Mision. This is where Paco tended bar at the Pelicano, the large rubber tree offered shade beside the pool and Elvis and John Wayne stayed. La Misión reconstructed, remodeled and reopened only a few years ago. The decor and atmosphere is more like a Ritz Carlton than a hotel in Loreto but fishermen deserve the best, right? This is a place that has fine linen, fancy leather furniture (that you’d better not spill your cerveza on) and a spa. It is located on Loreto’s newly remodeled waterfront near the marina. Hallways and low clearance stairwells make walking around with 9 foot flyrods a challenge. Off street parking is available in back. In room safes. WiFi available.

El Tiburon Casitas

Close to the marina, only one short block. plenty of space inside secure privacy walls, a nice mix of shade/sun around the pool. Airy pool area with large BBQ grille and party space around a deep pool that stays cool all summer long. Five casitas that are “L” shaped with queen bed on one side and bathroom/kitchen/sitting area in the other part. All have couch or futon that folds out into a bed for a second fisherman. There is one cabana that is set up better for larger groups but it was having details in the kitchen being worked on when I visited. All of the cabanas have a vaulted ceiling and the fan is up higher than usual so slightly more avoidable to “the rod vs. fan scenario”.

It helps to stay in a place when the owner is a fisherman! This property has all kinds of touches to help the outdoor enthusiast; from outside wash-down areas and BBQ and entertainment center thoughtful rod holders in the rooms. Just hope they got rid of those ceiling fans, if not then fly rodders heads up! La Damiana Inn

La Damiana Inn

La Damiana Inn

This is an historic residence of an ex. General in the Mexican military. It was restored a few years ago and during the construction, a couple of secret underground tunnels were discovered. One tunnel lead to the historic stone house across the street, and the other lead to the historic Mission in the center of town. These tunnels were likely built to protect the priests which were persecuted during revolutionary times. Now this house has six guest rooms many of which were newly remodeled, each uniquely decorated in traditional Mexican style. There are nice guest common areas and a large kitchen is available to guests. Another important note is that Geraldo the owner will willingly cook fishermen’s catches in their kitchen. La Damiana Inn is located right in the center of town, two blocks from the waterfront and across the street from a taxi stand. WiFi is available and there is a computer for guests to use that’s connected to the internet.

It is good stay for those traveling here by car and it has secured off street parking. This hotel is located next to one of the best restaurants in town, Domingo’s Place. There is a pool, bar and restaurant on site. In room safes. Rating due to inconvenient inland location in summertime (pertains to fishermen that arrive by air). WiFi available.

Motel El Moro

Motel El Moro

This little gem is very close to the waterfront and marina. There is an RV in back and rooms are in a modest two story concrete building that’s wonderfuly overgrown with colorful bouganvillas. This place is an easy walk to the town center, bank, plaza and the Mission. Rating due to uncertainty as we are only basing the above on our impression of this place. Comments from guests that have stayed here through the years have been positive. This means that it could actually rate higher on the fish scale. Next time I walk by I’ll get a better photo with those flowers!

The Junipero

Motel El Junipero

Motel El Junipero

We’ll handle your hotel reservation for this one. No English and no internet! They’ll put your name, group, and room numbers down in a spiral notebook they use to keep the reservations. And when you arrive, they’ll have a room for you and you’ll need to pay them directly on checking in. This is a locals lodge and the guest list will reflect it. You may share the property with other fishermen but you may also be mingling with Mexicans, Europeans and other adventurous traveling people. This is simply a place to put your head down and there are no pillow “shams” within a mile of here. This is truly no frills but the A/C works, its clean, its right in front of the bell tower of the Mission andtwo blocks from the water front. This place can get noisy, try to get a room in the back on the side that overlooks the Mission.

Sukasa Bungalows

This property is small and has five uniquely different rental units. It is on the water front and an easy walk to the center of town and the marina. The two units at the front of the property are a duplex, one of which has sliders and a patio facing the street. The other attached unit has the sliders facing North. There is the check-in counter a commercial office in a small building on the corner. The main house is two story with a great view and there is a yurt and a studio room more inside the property. Being on the waterfront, noise from cruising vehicles can pose a problem especially in hot weather.

Posada de las Flores

Posada de las Flores

Posada de las Flores

This historic looking building was actually only constructed and completed in the year 2000. It has ten rooms that range in size and level of services. This is a fancy hotel complete with pillow “shams” and a spa and it features a third story swimming pool with a glass floor. This adds light to the main lobby and can be seen by looking up. Some of their first guests, after opening the hotel, were fishermen who had a jolly time “mooning” other guests on the ground floor from the bottom of the rooftop pool above. They’ve copped a ‘tude with fishermen ever since. Rooms are European style and very small, antique museum-like setting, difficult to move around with fishing gear but the wife will be happy. This property is located in the center of town and two blocks from the waterfront. WiFi available.

Hotel Tripui

Hotel Tripui

Hotel Tripui

This hotel is well south of Loreto, at 20 miles away. So it is definately outside of town. Its proximity from Loreto makes us taking fishermen from there difficult and costly so we suggest staying in town. However this hotel does deserve mention as a good one to two night side trip from a Loreto trip. It makes a great starting point for a day whale watching trip to Mag Bay. Also the plentiful secure off street parking and wash down facilities make it a great place for private boaters who drive here. Puerto Escondido and its operations are only 3 Km down the street. The hotel is two stories with eight large rooms, two beds in each and overlooking the pool. The pool makes a great gathering place backdropped by the Sierra de la Giganta and scores of colorful flowering trees, bushes and plants. The large restaurant and bar can hande events. WiFi available. Mini mart and easy access to highway 1.

Motel Palmas Altas

Motel Palmas Altas

Motel Palmas Altas

Low budget but meets the basic requirements. A guys place, or a students crashpad. We’ll handle your hotel reservation for this one. This is another one of those spiral notebook reservation departments. When you arrive, they’ll have a room for you and you’ll need to pay them directly on checking in. Most of the Palmas Altas rooms are housed inside of one of several pre-fabricated ex-military housing units. Single rooms have one twin bed and a bathroom but hardly any room to move. Double beds will have two beds, and “suites”- and not my word for them, have two king beds in a modular 1950′s Winnabago style. The do have a couple of “departamentos” which are two apartments inside of a concrete building too. They actually have a pool and a pretty cool bar when its open. They’re on a paved street one block from the waterfront but also 100 feet in front of the municipal auditorium. If there’s a fiesta in that auditorium we suggest you look for another place to sleep! Good off street and secure parking. Cool place, funky but the price is right.
